WHO CAN JOIN?
Agriculture, Forestry & Rural Priority Membership
Know your land. Plan ahead. Stay prepared throughout the year.
Asterix provides an ongoing fire-preparedness and response relationship for approved rural properties in Greater Tzaneen and Greater Letaba. We get to know your property before an emergency, identify practical improvements and plan the fire services your land needs across the year.
This category is for plots, smallholdings, agricultural farms, orchards, forestry properties, game farms, game reserves and rural estates . It includes properties growing avocado, mango, macadamia, citrus and peanuts, as well as other agricultural operations. Owners and authorised occupiers are welcome to enquire.
Monthly fee: quoted after a property and risk assessment.
The fee reflects the property's size, location, access,
terrain, vegetation, water supply, buildings and agreed
service requirements. Registered boundaries, included visits
and member rates are recorded in your agreement.
What your rural membership provides
- A property profile and response plan: GPS coordinates for entrances, agreed property boundaries, access routes, gates, water points, buildings, hazards and emergency contacts.
- Monthly fire-preparedness visits: scheduled inspections or patrols of the agreed area, with the route, duration and scope confirmed at enrolment. Findings and progress are recorded; additional visits can be quoted where needed.
- Firebreak inspections and improvement advice: practical recommendations on weak points, where breaks may need widening or improvement, access limitations, fuel build-up and potential fire hazards.
- An annual preparedness and work plan: a schedule for inspections, firebreak work, planned burns and follow-up actions, adjusted to property needs, weather and current burning restrictions.
- Preferential member service rates: member quotations for controlled burns, firebreak work, firefighting standby, chargeable emergency response and mop-up. The scope and applicable charges are agreed before planned work begins.
- Worker preparedness: discounted member pricing for farm-worker fire-awareness and preparedness training booked through Asterix. Course content, provider, availability and price are confirmed before booking; any accredited qualification must be specifically identified in the course quotation.
- Documented inspection findings: dated records, practical recommendations and follow-up actions that you can retain and share with your insurer. Insurer-specific requirements and acceptance must be confirmed with the insurer.
- 24/7 emergency reporting and coordination: access to Asterix Dispatch and priority among comparable incidents, subject to life safety, incident severity, available resources, responder safety and incident command.
Planning, burning, standby and mop-up
We assist with site inspections, burn planning and required permit applications on your behalf. Planned services include controlled firebreak and block burning, agricultural and forestry burns, permitted vegetation heap burning, approved land-preparation burns, firefighting standby, monitoring and mop-up. We also assist peanut growers with approved land-preparation burns.
Usual controlled-burning period: 1 November to 31 July, weather permitting. Each burn remains subject to suitable weather and fire-danger conditions, required permits and current restrictions. Dates may be postponed or cancelled if conditions are unsuitable or restrictions change.
The monthly fee covers the preparedness services and visits stated in your agreement. Controlled burns, physical firebreak work, training, operational standby and chargeable emergency response are quoted or invoiced separately at the applicable member rates unless an item is expressly included. Travel, firefighting agents, consumables and additional resources are charged as agreed.
How to join
- Send your property details: provide the property name, type, location or GPS pin, approximate hectares and the services you need.
- Arrange an assessment: we confirm practical response access, property risks, coverage boundaries and the preparedness work required.
- Agree on your plan and monthly fee: your agreement records the visit schedule, service scope, member rates and any included accident-assistance benefit, including covered people, vehicles and the registered reference premises.
- Complete enrolment: submit the application and agreement and arrange payment by EFT. Membership starts when Asterix accepts the application, confirms the response area, receives payment and issues activation confirmation.
A yearly preparedness plan, paid monthly. Membership follows our current month-to-month terms, with payment due on or before the 5th and one calendar month's written notice for cancellation. The annual plan organises work across the seasons; it is not an annual prepayment or an automatic 12-month commitment.
Help is also available to non-members
Non-members can request inspections, advice, controlled burning, firebreak services, standby and mop-up at the applicable non-member rates. Genuine emergencies are assessed according to life safety, severity and operational availability.
Membership is a service subscription and does not provide insurance or guarantee a response time, attendance or outcome. Inspection records document the findings and work completed; they are not blanket legal-compliance certificates or guarantees of insurance acceptance. Landowner responsibilities remain applicable. All burning requires the necessary approvals, compliance with current restrictions and suitable conditions.
Tell us about your land and we will prepare the appropriate rural membership proposal.
